gotyourwallet: ([ pause ] proud like a god)

[ 2-7 ] [ audio / commentlog ]

[The comm clicks on to a heavy breath. There's a pause before Vie speaks, and when she does her voice is lacking it's usual enthusiasm. Instead Vie's tone is quiet but firm, an attempt at hiding any emotion but failing more than she would like to admit.]

Marco.

[Another pause. This is harder than she thought.]

You have my loyalty. I will aid you in whatever way I can, just as I did him.

[And that's all you get. She's forced calm for long enough for today. Vie shuts off the comm and lets it drop to the ground beside her.

Anyone passing along Deck 12 might notice a young woman sitting against the door of room 1212. She's hugging her knees to her chest and staring blankly ahead. Not wanting to believe that she's lost her closest friend once again, Vie is waiting. Silently she prays to every god she's ever believed in to bring him back, or at very least protect Godric and everyone else that's vanished without a trace where ever they are now.

Vie refuses to think any of those lost to be dead.]

(ooc: She won't be much for conversation right now. Vie's not taking the loss of Godric very well. This is the third time that she's let someone in only to lose them a short time after. She's got a pretty short fuse and is severely lacking patience. If she snaps, it's nothing personal. Vie's a bit of an emotional wreck right now. In time she'll be back to normal. For now? approach at your own risk. :<)

[Sabriel takes a long time to decide to respond: It is not her place to intrude; she and Vie barely know one another; she cannot honestly say she will miss Godric.

But she can both recognize and empathize with loss.]

If you need anything...

[You would think, with her somewhat unique experiences with Death, she would have a better idea of what to say.]

[There's a short silence before Vie replies.]

Sabriel. I'll be alright, I think. Just...

[Another moment of silence while she searches for the right word.]

Adjusting, I guess.

[She shouldn't say any more. And yet despite her better judgment, she speaks again.]

You at least seem to be adjusting better than I did.

[Vie had been on the verge of sinking back into deep thought and staring when Sabriel speaks again.]

Third time lucky. I'd like to think I'm handling things better than last time.

[Wishful thinking.]

...You have lost someone before?

My father, just before arriving here. And my...

[She hesitates. She still does not know exactly what to call Lirael.]

Another from my home, more recently.

Everyone and everything has a time to die. But that doesn't make the parting any easier.

[Vie nods, though Sabriel can't see it.]

I'm sorry, Sabriel. I understand that, and when my time comes I will go, but... do you think the ones that leave here, are dead?

[She's sorry? Whatever for?]

The crew have apparently said as much multiple times, with some guarantee of honesty that I'm not sure about.

But the second mate told me that they return home.

I've been trying to find out for myself but it's proving... Difficult.

[Sabriel's contentment with death would intrigue Vie. Perhaps they should compare beliefs and theories some time.]

Yes, I'd heard the first. But not the latter. The second mate said as much? Then there is... some hope.

[It's good news to hear.]

...Might I ask how you would find this out?

Godric at least can't have been gone more than three days. If he is dead then his spirit would not have-...

[Stop. Think.]

This is most likely something better discussed in person. At your convenience, of course.

[Sabriel has her full attention. Vie almost asks her to continue, but agrees that the comm isn't the best place to do so.]

Okay. Yes. That... makes sense.

[It's Vie's turn to pause.]

Would tomorrow be okay? Today I don't think I'm really... good for constructive thought.

[Sabriel nods, and then remembers that she cannot be seen.]

Tomorrow then.

I appreciate it, Sabriel.
