[ 003 ] [ Audio / Commentlog ] [ Kirovian --> Translated Text ]
[Sitting on a ledge part way up one of the towers is Vie, her Journal in one hand and a half consumed bottle of liquor in the other. Since the trial she's been keeping quiet, avoiding the crowd and deliberately making herself scarce. There was a lot on her mind, and the trial had proven to be the shock her relaxed had been waiting for. A reminder that this place was not safe, and that it's people were just as much a risk as the ones she knew from home.
Journal open, she skims the page before muttering in her native tongue.]
It would seem no matter where I go, nothing changes. The same corruption lingers.
My question to you, all of you, is a matter of species. What are you? Where do you come from? How alike is this world to your own?
[That's it. Vie falls silent. Anyone walking around outside might notice the girl sitting on the tower ledge, but try to get close and she'll climb away.]

[Not!Audio]
[Vie admits defeat.]
Do not fall.
[Not!Audio]
Please, have some faith would you?
[Now stay there while he shimmies the rest of the way.]
[Not!Audio]
Mar durask.
[Not!Audio]
With a desperate flail Hawke grabs the edge and hauls himself up. The way he's grinning you wouldn't think he nearly died.]
Well that was exciting!
[Not!Audio]
Hawke!
[But then he steadies himself, catches the edge and pulls himself up and the panic eases off. Though he grins, she frowns at him still. Vie punches Hawke in the arm.]
You almost fell.
[Hawke you naughty boy.]
[Not!Audio]
Almost being the keyword. I knew I was going to make it.
[Not!Audio]
Your confidence will be the end of you.
[It's not a threat, just another hint of concern.]
And now you're here. What is it you want?
[Not!Audio]
[He doesn't seem to be the slightest bit bothered by her statement.]
Wouldn't mind a sip from that bottle if there's still something left.
[Not!Audio]
[She takes another swig and passes it over. The bottle was full when she started. Now it's closer to half way.
Vie really should be more drunk than she is. The woman says nothing more and just... looks out over the Keep yard.]
[Not!Audio]
So why are we up here?
[Not!Audio]
[Her tone is a little bland, but she's trying for a joke.]
Or perhaps I've got a lot on my mind. More memories running through my head than I would like.
[Not!Audio]
[It's better than her sitting up here sulking.]
Memories you feel like sharing?
[Not!Audio]
Did you see the trial?
[Not!Audio]
Afraid I missed the fun.
[Not!Audio]
[And doooown the hatch. Vie knocks back a hearty swig and passes it back.]
Two shape shifters. Gashin, they would be called where I come from, but here I'm not sure of the term. For whatever crime, they fought to the death in the arena while a single guard knocked back any who tried to interrupt.
We've similar on my world. Only it's never Gashin in the cage, at least not against one another. Only ever Valei.
[Not!Audio]
After saving us they would have us fight each other to the death? Fantastic, I feel so much safer now.
[Not!Audio]
I relaxed too much. I let my guard down.
[And Vie is angry at herself for it.]
...And I'm effectively breaking my own rules in telling you anything.
Not!Audio]
Any good rule should be broken one or two or a couple dozen times.
[Not!Audio] hello my name is xhan and i thought i posted this reply.
[Vie pauses.]
Though I never was any good at following rules...
[Not!Audio]
[Hawke looks out over the keep from where they sit. It's not really a bad view. It's a shame that Hawke doesn't have his map with him.]
There's no reward without risk is there? If I hadn't gone to the Deep Roads I would still be sharing a room with my uncle and his cheese instead of being able to support my family.
[Not that he has much family left to support. Fortune is one fickle mistress.]
[Not!Audio]
You and that cheese again.
[Vie lies back as much as the roof will let her without slipping and turns her gaze to the sky.]
Risk and reward only works so far. One must be prepared to fall. You can't win every time.
[Things had been so good when Shad and the team were around.]
Sometimes you end up alone.
[Not!Audio]
[No joke. No smirk. For once Hawke appears to be very somber.]
[Not!Audio]
[Not!Audio]
[Not!Audio]
Eventually though, she sits up and glances at him.]
We should probably climb down before it gets too dark...
