[ 2-4 ] [ accidental video post / audio / comment log ]
[The video feeds kicks in with the fast blur image of the library. It would seem the comm has taken a leap from the hands of it's owner and is plummeting from the top of a bookshelf to the floor. A voice cuts through the air, speaking in a strange language.]
1Ta! Suto'nmi-- Merce!
[With a thud, it lands, completely undamaged and left to lie with it's lens facing upwards to where it fell from. Perched on the top railing of a ladder with her foot resting on the edge of a shelf is Vie. She leans over to peer down at the comm, hand still outstretched from holding it only seconds before.
There's a short moment of the woman just... looking, expression slightly worried that she might of broken the comm. She nabs a rather thick book from the shelf that her foot rests on and in a swift motion jumps from the top of the ladder. Vie lands lightly and reaches to pick up the comm. Anyone watching will see her turn the comm in her hands and hold it up for inspection. Spying no damage, she smiles before realizing that the video is active and that she's broadcasting to the entire boat.]
Ah... sorry!
[She can't not laugh as she shuts the video feed off.]
(ooc: 1Ta! Suto'nmi-- Merce! means 'No! Come bac-- SHIT' in Vie's native tongue. She's in the library, eager to do some research on some, or rather one of the races she's just met. Can anyone say 'Vampire?' Vie's encounter with Eric has left her determined to know her target and not fear him. Godric has left her plain curious.)

Godric, yes. I intend to speak with him tomorrow evening. As the other, I can say that he does feed upon blood and is incredibly fast and strong.
[She pauses a moment to frown deeply.]
Not to mention arrogant and cocky and a brute at the best of times.
[Rant done, she acknowledges Sabriel's question.]
I was simply seeking to know more about them. If a method of defence comes to my attention then I will certainly embrace it. Though, from what I can tell, Godric is a power over Eric.
[Commentlog]
Did he - Eric - tell you that, or...?
[It's only then that Sabriel remembers there was no request for the return of clothing or possessions, meaning Eric's victim lived. Her gaze flicks to Vie's neck, but there's no mark. Rather than make assumptions again, she bites her tongue.]
If Godric can hold Eric to his own standard, then I for one would be more than happy to give them a wide berth.
[Commentlog]
Tell? I guess you could say that. It was more of an example.
[She moves to inspect what books are on offer on the shelf beside her and after a pause, glances up at Sabriel.]
I have great faith in Godric. He did not seem pleased with the actions of the other.
[Commentlog]
[She'll say no more than that, curious though she may be. It is obviously not a pleasant memory. She starts climbing down the ladder.]
He does seem to take his duties very seriously. I don't know if you heard, but he challenged the Captain over the right to punish Eric.
[There is the tiniest hint of admiration in her voice. They may not be Dead in her own sense of the word, but that is hardly enough for Sabriel to warm to vampires, no matter how honourable one may seem. But she can admire Godric's keeping to his principles.]
[Commentlog]
[Her attention returns to the books on the shelf, expression taking a slightly darker edge. Vie's gaze quickly redirects to Sabriel at the mention of Godric challenging Redd.]
No, I did not hear it.
[She would have to listen back through the records and find that post.]
Godric seemed quite determined to make peace that night. He apologized for Eric's actions more than once if I recall correctly.
[Parts of that night are a little foggy. Vie will blame blood loss for that.]
I would not go as far as to say he was worried, at least not about me. His focus was more on repairing damage to the human-vampire relations.
[Commentlog]
[Sabriel pauses, and reconsiders.]
We are all prisoners here. We must all share the same space for who-knows-how-long. Hostility for its own sake is hardly practical.
[And Godric has a personal stake in gaining the trust of humans. But let Vie make up her own mind.]
Are you alright?
[Commentlog]
[She nods.]
I'm fine. I heal well.
[Commentlog]
[Eric is an idiot. A dangerous idiot. But now Sabriel is curious, her gaze flicking to Vie's forehead as she only now checks for a Charter mark; what did she mean by 'heal well?']
That is good, at least. But why would you fight him without knowing what he was?
[Commentlog]
[Now she knew about herself, her regeneration, Godric, Vampires. Not to mention all of the new infomation that was coming to her. Vie's hunt for knowledge had only increased since the encounter.
Sabriel's next question earned a slight frown.]
I... am stubborn. As is he. Neither of us would back down, even with the danger.
[It was one of her main flaws. Vie's pride often got the best of her. She was competitive and a life of being forced down only made her want to fight more. If she was told she couldn't do something, Vie would push to prove them wrong. Eric's attitude had been more than enough to get her started.]
[Commentlog]
[Sabriel smiles, a hint of wry amusement creeping into her expression. Vie is not the only one who has learned from the incident. Had it not been for Eric's theatrics, Sabriel would likely not have investigated vampires at all.]
I have found several suggested defenses: silver, divine faith in concert with religious symbols and the like. Obviously asking about anything like that would be beyond rude, and I have no intention to harm anyone. But if you do find a definite defense against their kind, would you mind sharing it?
I don't like being so vulnerable against the dead.
[Just because she's decided for now that banishing these particular revenants is not her place, that does not mean she will never need to defend herself from them.]
[Commentlog]
[It sounded too simple to be a defense.]
If I find anything of worth, I will share. Can I rely on you to do the same?
[Vie pauses. She's got a lot of respect for Godric and won't stand for any harm to come to him undeserved.]
And please, do not act without proper reason. I'll not support a hunt and I will defend him if need be.
[Godric helped her. She will help him. Then they'll be even and can go about their business.]
[Commentlog]
In all honesty, I hope never to act at all. They bear some similarities, but vampires are certainly different from the revenants of my homeland. They are - or Godric is - civilized. They have their own rule of law. Without proper reason, I don't think I could hunt them.
[It's a thought that distresses her. She is Abhorsen. How can she possibly sympathize with those who claim to be dead? It's wrong. It goes against everything she has ever been taught.
She sighs, her face relaxing into a more neutral expression.]
But of course, if I find out anything else of interest, I will be certain to let you know.
[Commentlog]
[Vie nods.]
I am glad to hear it. Eric, I will admit, my opinion of him is rather low, but that is a mere personality clash. In regards to what he is and what he is capable of, the man, or vampire, has my full respect.
Godric is another matter entirely. I find him strangely interesting to speak with.
[Commentlog]
You respect him as a vampire even after what he did to you?
I'm afraid I don't understand that.
[Commentlog]
Is it wrong to respect that which is greater than yourself? I refer to what he is, rather than who he is.
[Commentlog] You saw no fail.
[Offering an opinion on immortality to a stranger whose own traits and abilities she does not know is definitely a good idea. Open mouth; insert foot.]
[Commentlog] I so did.
You assume I am human.
However, your points are valid. The respect I would have for Eric and that I have for Godric are very different. One more driven by risk [She refuses to say fear.] than the other.
[Commentlog] Nono! I did that on purpose!
So I did. My apologies.
[Sabriel would not call that respect, but then who is she to lecture anyone on risks?]
In that case, all the more reason to be prepared. The books will give you a starting point at least.
[She steps off the lowest rung and half-turns for the end of the aisle.]
Good luck.
